Daily Routine

Having a daily routine is one of the most important tenants of your Holistic Lifestyle. When the body becomes accustomed to doing the same thing around the same time everyday, the nervous system begins to relax. In particular, a morning routine, affords us an opportunity to prioritize what is most important to include in our health regimen and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. A typical Holistic Lifestyle morning routine would include meditation (morning kriya, protection and grounding techniques, and sun salutation for example), grooming (including tongue scraping and dry brushing to start), exercise and bathing (with application of essential oils) and dressing appropriately for your day (being mindful of color choices and gemstones / jewelry to enhance your daily goals.)

By adding the use of a tongue scraper to your daily morning routine you assist your body in eliminating toxins that have accumulated in your mouth overnight, help wake up your internal organs by putting pressure on the corresponding tongue points and stimulate your digestive capacity to ensure your begin your day feeling so fresh and so clean clean!

How to use a tongue scraper

Ideally a tongue scraper is used everyday, early in the morning, on an empty stomach before drinking anything.

Hold the end(s) of the scraper, extend your tongue and place the scraper on the surface of your tongue as far back as you can comfortably reach. Gently pull the scraper forward so it removes the unwanted coating.

Scrape and clean the entire top and side surfaces of your tongue, not just the center and rinse your scraper in between scrapes repeating as necessary 7-14 times.

The use of a tongue scraper may cause gag reflex or on rare occasions vomiting,  especially in the beginning while getting used to it.

Using a tongue scraper does get easier with practice and it helps to relax the tongue and exhale during use to prevent undesirable reflexes.

Tongue scraping is safe but try not to be overly aggressive with your scraper. Always use gentle strokes as to not harm the underlying tissue or temporarily damage taste buds.

Would love to hear your experience with tongue scraping as a comment to this post and happy scraping!
